New Year, New Word

Hi Friends!

So it’s the last day of 2018— how do we feel?

I've looked back on the year that I've had, and I'm so thankful for the lessons and the adventures.

I’m pretty excited about the new year, actually! I’m a little nervous, because a new year always means a new adventure awaits. I never fail to learn so much in the span of a year, so I’m expectant about what 2019 is going to teach me. To encourage this growth, I’ve started choosing a word each year— I love a good theme, so this is very on-brand for me. When I choose the word of the year, I try to make that my focus word, learning more about the meaning it has and how it’s relevant to my life. It’s kind of like a broader version of a resolution. Last year, for example, my word was “intentional”. I spent the year really focusing on the people in my life. I cut out the friends who weren’t good friends to me and I focused on loving those in my life really well. My friendships really flourished this year all because of the word of the year (at least that’s what I like to think).

How do I top that word? I’ve been trying to come up with one even half as good for a while, and I FINALLY think I have it:

Forward. The next 365 days will not be for looking back and reminiscing. The next year will be for taking lessons in the past and making steps forward and improving. With 2019, I’m going be more willing to be encouraged and to encourage others to try new things. Moving forward has growth attached. It’s a branch of intentionality— making a point to reach the goals I set and achieve what I set out to do by taking action. I won’t be idle; I’ll move forward. We have to keep moving forward all the time to see progress and growth. I just have too many dreams to stand still. I cannot wait to see what 2019 has in store.

Happy New Year!
